Types of Men’s socks

There are many types of socks that are available in fashion. There is no such thing as the best or the perfect pattern for socks. Just like any other dressing item, the socks can also be selected according to the occasion, activity, and requirement.

There are various types of socks and they can be classified according to various factors like length of the sock, the fiber used while making them, the color and the texture of the sock.

The length of the sock is a crucial aspect. They decide the mobility and other important factors.

Low cut sport/Ankle length:

These socks barely reach the ankle joints of the leg. These are also called the low cut sport because they provide much more structural mobility as compared to the longer ones.

Ankle dress/ Mid-calf socks:

This type of socks is much more standard. They reach up to half the calf length. Ankle dress is much more widely usable as compared to any other type of sock length.

Over the calf/Knee length:

This length of the sock is more of a winter protection type. This length protects the leg from the knee and reduces heat escape. The mobility is highly restricted. These socks are generally made in wool for the extreme winter conditions.

Classification based on the fiber is much more complicated as compared to the other two genres. The main reason is the sheer chaos due to various products in the market.

First of all, an entire sock is not made of just one fiber, they are made of a combination of various fibers. Even if the dominant fiber is chosen, there are so many fibers available in the market that it is impossible to make a list of all of them:

This is one of the oldest and most used fabric in the socks making industry. Initially, socks had only one purpose, keeping the foot warm and wool topped the list. The scenario hasn’t changed much, the socks made for the extreme cold weather are also made with wool.

Cotton is well known for the comfort it provides in case of prolonged usage. The cotton socks are relatively cooler and comfortable. Since socks have become popular and people have started to use regularly, cotton has gained a lot of popularity.

Although silk is a very popular choice while making socks, it is hardly a dominant material. It is generally used to supplement wool.

This is a great property of silk, it goes with every material and gives it a royal and finishing touch. It also enriches the feel of the sock which cannot be done by wool or cotton alone.

It is in the true sense a royal fabric. The feel and the touch of cashmere containing socks are really divine. It feels much more like wool. There is a great disadvantage of using cashmere.

They are very difficult to maintain like washing and drying. Thus the socks made by these materials could only be used on special occasions and not regularly.

This is a more general term that encapsulates all the synthetically processed elements that have been recently made to make socks better. Although each fabric has its own pros and cons, the sale of synthetic socks is a bit less because of lack of popularity and effectiveness.

Still, they can be used in cases where natural materials don’t meet the custom expectations.

Style statement and fashion sense are associated with everything one wears. Socks are no exception to this rule. The color and texture are a big deal while wearing for specific occasions. Not following them could result in degraded look or even offensive look.

General pattern socks presenting no emotion whatsoever come under this category. They can be used in most places.

Bright Solids:

This is more a “Happy” sock and mostly party themed. They can be worn in parties and other casual social gatherings.

These socks contain themes that in a certain way personify you. They have a certain feel of “Character”. They can also be worn in nonprofessional social gatherings.

This the fanciest form of sock design available.

The color, length, and fabric of the cloth must be chosen carefully according to the occasion, usefulness and the requirement.
